She was musical and artistic since her youth. She attended The University of Texas at Austin, and earned a degree in Communications. Early in her career she was a newscaster, but soon left to pursue her musical endeavors. She was a founding member of the Dixie Chicks. She filled many roles with the band and acted as lead vocalist, bassist, manager, and CFO. She has left an indelible mark on bluegrass and country music.
Laura's artistic talents extended beyond music. She excelled in oil painting, storytelling, interior design, construction and renovating old buildings. Her storytelling prowess was unmatched, captivating all who had the privilege of hearing her tales. She prized good grammar, stimulating conversation, and a sharp wit.
Laura's boundless energy and kindness drew people to her. She constantly engaged in projects aimed at making the world a better place. She was a fierce advocate for Dell City and Hudspeth County, actively working to promote tourism in the area. Laura transformed several delipidated buildings in Dell City into unique lodging spaces for Guadalupe Mountains visitors, enhancing her hometown's charm. She was, in all ways, a super host.
Laura possessed the unique ability to inspire others to join her in various endeavors. Her infectious enthusiasm resulted in memorable events from numerous gatherings at her Wine Bar to most recently The Inflatables Race at the Hudspeth County Fair in 2023.
Above all, Laura's family, especially her daughter Asia and Asia's family, held a special place in her heart. When it came to her grandsons, she was the embodiment of love. She showed them how to put in hard day's work of manual labor. Simultaneously teaching them about current events and challenging them with the "word of the day". They were the center of her universe, and her love for them knew no bounds.
